Easing of Border Restrictions - State by State summary

As we transition back towards some sort of normality over the coming months. Below is a summary of which states have made some kind of announcement on if / when they will lift border restrictions with double-vaccinated Australians. As always, things change regularly so contact your consultant if you need more information:

TAS:
TAS is opening up to double-vaccinated travellers from December 15th. More details will follow but the ‘roadmap’  is here: https://www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au/transition-plan

SA:
They’ll open on 23rd November for quarantine free entry for double-vaccinated travellers. There will be further relaxations once SA hits 90% vaccination rates as well. Check out more on their plan here: https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au/response

QLD:
QLD have only really ‘suggested’ they’ll open up to everyone (including NSW/VIC as well) at certain stages, before Christmas. Again further details available on the link, but basically its:

  • 70% vaccinated (19 Nov or earlier): travellers allowed in but if from a hotspot, quarantining conditions apply
  • 80% vaccinated (17 December or earlier): more relaxed for travellers including from hotspots, who just have to produce a negative result 72 hours prior
  • 90% vaccinated (no dates given): No restrictions at all for entering QLD.

See more here: https://www.covid19.qld.gov.au/government-actions/queenslands-covid19-vaccine-plan

NSW/ACT:
No entry requirements, unless you’re a non-resident that’s been in a ‘place of high concern’ (i.e. exposure site). They’re now open to international arrivals quarantine free! https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/travel-restrictions/interstate-travel-rules

VIC:
VIC are basically open to anyone coming in already like NSW, however travellers risk having to quarantine on returning to their home state.

NT:
Hard to find much recent detail (since 1st October) but the plan appears to be to open up to double-vaccinated travellers once the state hits 80%... but it’s unclear what the rules will be once that happens. I don’t think it will be a free-for-all and they’ll still have restrictions in place for ‘hot spots’, however they define that moving forward.

WA:
No official announcement, and the premier is seeming to suggest he’ll wait until the new year, and continue to impose the controlled border on any state that has outbreaks after they open up. They’re targeting between 80 – 90% vaccination rate before this happens, and WA are behind in their vaccination rates.
