Can you tell us a bit about your background and Medical career before joining Your Doctor Jobs?
My name is Robair Abdou. I am originally from Egypt, moved over 12 years ago to Australia. I am a fellow of the RACGP. I was a regular GP in SA and QLD before deciding to go locum
What motivated you to explore locum opportunities through Your Doctor Jobs?
Exploring more of the country, challenging my self in rural and remote Australia
Who is your Recruitment Consultant and how long have you been working together?
Stuart Cooper is my recruitment consultant Been working together for now about just under 2 years
What kind of support and guidance have you received from your Consultant whilst arranging placements?
Stuart has been of great support, understanding my preferences and working out the most appropriate placement and making logistics hassle free
Could you describe some of the specific roles and placements that you have worked through Your Doctor Jobs?
Some GP/ ED roles were in SA like in Eyre peninsula small towns like Cleve, Kimba, Elliston with on call roster
Some GP/ Ed roles in NSW like in Lightning ride, Wallgett, Bourke
And some GP roles in VIC like in Orbost
GP roles in TAS in Hobart
What location has been the most rewarding for you. Either personally or professionally and why?
Eyre Peninsula SA roles like in Cleve, Elliston and Kimba
Can you share any tips or insights into how to succeed as a locum Doctor in todays healthcare environment for any Doctors who may be considering locum work for the first time?
Would say there will be some challenges in small towns like access to services, less options of dining But I felt as a doctor that practicing in rural was more rewarding and more flexible
Have you experienced any unforeseen difficulties on any of your placements and how were these challenges handled by Your Doctor Jobs?
Had some difficulty in remote WA, aboriginal community, was handled well by Stuart, who was of great support and understanding
Other than your toothbrush, when travelling to a new placement, what are 3 things that you could never forget to pack and take with you?
Phone charger, stethoscope, portable wifi
If you are working in a rural and remote area, how do you pass the down time whilst not working?
Going for a walk, watching movies, talking to family overseas, exercising, medical podcast
What is one unforgettable experience that you would not have had, if you were not locuming?
The countless beautiful country side seaside and mountains scenery and beautiful down to earth people, just different than big cities, given that am based on the Gold Coast
