New Expedited Specialist Pathway for Overseas Trained Doctors
A new fast track pathway for Specialist international medical graduates (SIMGs) has been designed to allow qualified international medical specialists to start working in Australia sooner.

A new fast track pathway for Specialist international medical graduates (SIMGs) has been designed to allow qualified international medical specialists to start working in Australia sooner. It aims to remove unnecessary regulatory barriers and to assist with doctor shortage within the Australian Health Care system.
There are four specialties already approved, with more specialties getting looked at and will progressively be added once approved by the Australian health minister.
The current specialties on the list are –
* Anaesthesia
* General Practice
* Obstetrics and Gynaecology
* Psychiatry

Process to apply
Your Doctor Jobs will assist you with all the paperwork and process to be able to work in Australia, and below is the process –
Apply to the AMC for primary source verification of your primary medical degree and specialist medical qualifications.
Apply to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to establish an EPIC/MyIntealth account for verification of qualifications
Apply for the Medical Board of Australia for specialist registration
Submit supervised practice plan along with position description, and an orientation
Immigration if required
Medicare provider number applications
Once on the pathway
Once you have started work, there are some requirements while you are registration on this pathway, they are below -
Completed six months supervised practice including an orientation to the Australian Health system and cultural safety education
After three months of practice, submit a supervised practice report
Complete the required work-placed based assessments
Complete any additional assessment of requirements specified by the Medical Board
At the end of the six months of practice, submit an orientation report, a supervised practice report and evidence of completed assessments
Apply to the Medical Board to have the conditions removed
Doctors already working in Australia
Do you hold limited registration but hold qualifications from those countries, you can apply for specialist registration through the expedited specialist pathway.
